Impact Stories
Real People. Real Connection.
The people SimpalUK helps are facing some of life’s hardest moments — serious illness, homelessness, domestic abuse, isolation. Here are some of their stories, in their own words and the words of the professionals who support them.
“
From Isolated to the RAF
My client, 24, was estranged from his family and living in temporary accommodation. His phone had been stolen, and after months on Universal Credit he couldn’t afford a new contract. He couldn’t attend activities at the homeless charity he visited, and support workers couldn’t reach him — the only way to get in touch was for him to visit the local library and check his email there. Once he had his SIMpal phone, everything changed. He had the confidence to apply for his dream opportunity: joining the RAF. He used the phone to arrange appointments with the RAF recruiter, practise for the Defence Aptitude Test, and speak to his support worker whenever he needed encouragement. He passed the Defence Aptitude Test with 74%, and is now waiting for his medical and fitness test — the first steps towards a career, secure accommodation, and, in his own words, finally feeling like he belongs.

One Less Thing to Worry About
A patient receiving palliative care was being chased for phone bills she couldn’t afford, at a time when she should never have had to worry about money. Her husband told us the strain was so great that she’d considered using money set aside for her own funeral to pay it. We got in touch with SimpalUK, who helped the family challenge the charges and resolve the debt — and arranged a SIM card so she could keep in touch with her family while she was an inpatient, and with her clinical team once she was discharged home. After she passed away, her husband visited the ward to say thank you. He told us how much it had meant, at the hardest time of their lives, that someone had been able to help.

That Phone and Laptop Changed My Life Completely
That phone and laptop you helped me with last year have literally changed my life. I’m about to start a new AI and software business, with long-term deals already agreed with clients in London — it could be huge. I’m travelling around Europe and the US working on the roll-out this summer. Your kindness, and your willingness to talk when I was at a low point, changed my life. I can’t thank you enough. If my business does as well as I hope, I’d love to become SimpalUK’s charity partner — the charity we invest in. You know what you do helps so many people get their lives back on track.
