My client, 24, was estranged from his family and living in temporary accommodation. His phone had been stolen, and after months on Universal Credit he couldn’t afford a new contract. He couldn’t attend activities at the homeless charity he visited, and support workers couldn’t reach him — the only way to get in touch was for him to visit the local library and check his email there.
Once he had his SIMpal phone, everything changed. He had the confidence to apply for his dream opportunity: joining the RAF. He used the phone to arrange appointments with the RAF recruiter, practise for the Defence Aptitude Test, and speak to his support worker whenever he needed encouragement.
He passed the Defence Aptitude Test with 74%, and is now waiting for his medical and fitness test — the first steps towards a career, secure accommodation, and, in his own words, finally feeling like he belongs.
